PADI Sidemount Rec Diver

Discover the balance and efficiency of sidemount scuba diving with your PADI dive instructor.

Many divers find sidemount tanks are more comfortable and easier to put on in the water. Sidemount diving is also beneficial for divers who want improved balance and prolonged dives.

Prerequisites
To enroll in the Sidemount course, you must be:
– A PADI Open Water Diver
– At least 15 years old

Requirements
The Sidemount course consists of eLearnng knowledge development, academic and equipment review with your instructor,four training dives over two days.

What you can expect to learn:

  • Gas management utilizing independent cylinders
  • Equipment considerations
  • Cylinder options
  • Regulator options
  • Buoyancy compensator device (BCD)/harness options
  • Proper weighting
  • Equipment configurations
  • Communication
  • Hand signals
  • Problem solving
  • Gas-sharing
  • Gas hemorrhages
  • Water entries
  • S-Drills (specific to sidemount)

Some of the required skills you will have to demonstrate include:

  • Plan dive
  • Test and check all equipment (depth gauges, bottom timers/watches and computers)
  • Familiarization with area
  • Descend to planed depth and not exceed any pre-planned limits
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely manage gas in independent cylinders
  • Monitor depth/time/air consumption, figure all times on slate
  • Demonstrate ability to control buoyancy
  • Attaching sidemount cylinders while
    • Out of water
    • On surface standing on bottom
    • On surface in water to deep to stand
  • At depth
    • Perform gas switches
    • Perform safety stops

The Scuba Gear You Use
Students MUST have their own Sidemount Scuba Kit.
We have all the leading Sidemount Kits in stock.
Your Sidemount Instructor will show you the various options, help you select, and properly fit and configure your sidemount set up.

You’ll train with your Sidemount scuba diving equipment.

Here is how it works:

  • Complete the comprehensive elearning course at your own pace – online or offline. Time commitment: 4-6 hours
  • Sidemount Classroom Session: Friday June 12th 5:00pm – 7:00 pm
  • Confined Water and Checkout Dive 1: Saturday  June 13th
  • Checkout Dives 2-4 : Sunday June 14th
