Maybe you want to become an Instructor to start or change careers or so you can travel the world. The Instructor Course will teach current Divemaster or Assistants Instructors the knowledge to safely function as an Instructor with the abilities to teach Open Water Scuba Divers, Advanced Adventures Divers, Rescue Divers, Divemasters and Assistant Instructors. The program is divided into two sections,
–Â Instructor Development Course (IDC), and
–Â Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC).

The IDC will consist of eight days of intensive training, classroom, pool, open water, and will require candidates to make preparations for class assignments outside of scheduled class hours. The average class day will begin at 8am and run eight to ten hours. Due to the demanding nature of the course, it is highly recommended attendees not schedule additional commitments during the IDC. Professional attire is expected of candidates attending the IDC; tank tops, cut-off jeans, offensive or revealing attire is not acceptable.
Following successful completion of the IDC, Instructor Candidates will be eligible to attend a PADI Instructor Examination (IE). After passing the IE, they will earn the certification of PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
IDC Prerequisites
-Dive Leader Certification-PADI Divemaster or leadership-level certification with a recognized recreational dive training organization.
-18 years old.
-Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.
-Certified diver for six months.
-EFR Primary and Secondary Care course completion (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months.
-If not a PADI Divemaster, complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment.
-Submit documentation of qualifying certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level, as necessary.
Required Materials
Candidates are expected to have their own professional and fully functional dive equipment suitable for training entry level divers (excluding tanks and weights provided by Carolina Dive Center ), as specified in the PADI Instructor Manual. Scuba Gear Kit must include: a surface marker buoy (safety sausage), pocket mask, compass, timing device (watch or computer which will display seconds/minutes), a basic calculator is recommended (use of a calculator on a personal telephone is NOT allowed during the PADI Instructor Examination). Candidates must have in their possession a current set of the following materials (paper or digital are acceptable).
